About Rachel Johnson
Hi, I’m Rachel Johnson!
My first love is science, particularly biochemistry. I love the subject so much that I completed my Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of Toronto in 1997. What’s interesting about my experience there is that I quickly realized that working with students as both a teaching assistant and mentor within the lab was more fulfilling than the research itself!
This led me to the field of education where I completed my bachelor’s in education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto in 2010. Since earning my teaching credentials, I have been teaching in science and mathematics classrooms within my board, working with students at the grades 9 – 12 level.
I quickly discovered my passion for integrating technology into my classroom and, after several years as an eLearning teacher, completed my Masters in Education at Ontario Tech University. There, I took all kinds of courses where I nerded out on all things EdTech! I loved every minute of it and it has led to my prior role as an innovation coach in a school board in Ontario. I’m now back in the classroom and loving every minute of it!
In my spare time, I love to get “Googley” and have successfully completed my Google Certified Educator level 1 and 2 certifications. I also recently became a Google Certified Trainer in June 2020 and I am an active leader with the Global Google Educator Group. I’ve also become obsessed with badges and I have started a very nice collection from tools such as EdPuzzle, Screencastify, Wakelet, Book Creator, and WeVideo.
