Hi, I’m Katie Attwell!

I didn’t always know that I would be a teacher. I entered university pursuing a science degree, and not really sure about where it would take me. However, I quickly realized that my passion and interests were not for the sciences, but rather languages. All throughout high school, I took language courses: French, Spanish and Italian. Once removed from them, I missed learning languages, and decided that I would shift gears towards Spanish – eventually earning an Honours BA in Spanish Language and Literature.

From there, I continued on to teacher’s college, becoming a qualified secondary Spanish and history teacher. During one of my placements, I was at a school with a large ESL (English as a Second Language) population. Loving languages, ESL programming piqued my interests, and would continue to be an interest as I got started in education.

Throughout the years, I have taught Spanish and ESL, as well as ELD (English Literacy Development – ESL for students that do not have age-appropriate literacy in their first language), and language acquisition has always remained an area of interest and passion in my career.

I first drank the Google Kool-Aid in 2013-2014 and I haven’t looked back since! I love learning new technology that can help both staff and students succeed. I am a Google Certified Educator, level 1 and level 2 and I’m obsessed with using technology to help support language acquisition.

Soon to be Google Certified Trainer Badge 🙂
